Hi~
I am back showing off my new project just off the needles~ You can't imagine how much I am excited to share this. Recently I've been looking for a small project that I could learn something new. Color work is one of the techniques that I've been intimidated forever so I was browsing small color work project that I could invest fairly small time and effort if possible. I am very embarrassed but I have to confess that I am a person who gets bored easily with a big project and has lot of UFOs in my basket. So to overcome the problem I need to find something positively simple and easy to start with.
I found lots of tempting, perhaps little too advanced projects for my level. They looked real good and I truly wanted to take one but deep down in myself this serious voice was telling me, "You're not there yet." Umm.. yes, I know how much I can do and those are little too much for this color work virgin. So, after hours and hours of researching I ended up with this group called "free pattern testers" in Ravelry. One of the designers is looking for testers for a simple yet interesting color work hat. I was a bit nervous to apply but I thought joining this would challenge me gently to move out of my comfort zone. After all, it is not a humongous sweater I am investing. It is a small cute hat. How difficult would it be?
So I got the pattern and read it through. Seems like fun yet not too difficult. Watch some YouTube videos for carrying different colors of yarns, managing tensions, and etc. Seriously, YouTube has everything I need! By doing this I've learned at least 3 different useful skills that I could use for other projects. That's pretty awesome!
The finished piece? Aww.. it is simply to die for! I absolutely love the result. You know. I am all about colors and textures. I cannot believe I've waited this long to learn fair isle! It just matches my character. If you haven't done yet you must try. This is a totally different world. I guarantee you cannot stop knitting once you start. I made one more right away with different color scheme, and you know what? I am in love with color work! I am gonna grab colorful yarns and try something big soon. ;) Anyone bitten by color work buggies?
