My favorite thing in this time of the year: cleaning my atelier.

Earlier this year I and J were moving to a bigger house totally out of the blue. We're pleasantly excited yet physically exhausted after this sudden movement. (Yes, here's a not-so-legit excuse why I was not around recently.)

Thanks to the extra room available I was able to move my atelier at home. I am super stocked! However, after taking care of most of my craft materials I encountered this huge mountain stacks of fabrics (and balls of yarns). Thanks to J I was able to organize some of my fabrics in such a neat way (by the way.. I truly love this fabric organizer made out of a crib!) but as you might guess I still have so many rolls of fabrics in the box with sad faces. What about yarns? I couldn't even start yet. I am gonna have to spend good chunks of time organizing those in this summer. Hopefully I can show you some improvement soon.

Isn't it so funny whenever I begin to work on new projects I can't find the right one to use from my stock? I always end up with getting more stuffs. Sweet J. He never gives me the face saying, "Don't you have enough already??" Ah, do I have enough or do I need more? It's only me who keeps adoring such gorgeous human creations and desiring more? Please tell me "No". :)

First Fair Isle Ever

Hi~

I am back showing off my new project just off the needles~ You can't imagine how much I am excited to share this. Recently I've been looking for a small project that I could learn something new. Color work is one of the techniques that I've been intimidated forever so I was browsing small color work project that I could invest fairly small time and effort if possible. I am very embarrassed but I have to confess that I am a person who gets bored easily with a big project and has lot of UFOs in my basket. So to overcome the problem I need to find something positively simple and easy to start with.

I found lots of tempting, perhaps little too advanced projects for my level. They looked real good and I truly wanted to take one but deep down in myself this serious voice was telling me, "You're not there yet." Umm.. yes, I know how much I can do and those are little too much for this color work virgin. So, after hours and hours of researching I ended up with this group called "free pattern testers" in Ravelry. One of the designers is looking for testers for a simple yet interesting color work hat. I was a bit nervous to apply but I thought joining this would challenge me gently to move out of my comfort zone. After all, it is not a humongous sweater I am investing. It is a small cute hat. How difficult would it be?

So I got the pattern and read it through. Seems like fun yet not too difficult. Watch some YouTube videos for carrying different colors of yarns, managing tensions, and etc. Seriously, YouTube has everything I need! By doing this I've learned at least 3 different useful skills that I could use for other projects. That's pretty awesome!

The finished piece? Aww.. it is simply to die for! I absolutely love the result. You know. I am all about colors and textures. I cannot believe I've waited this long to learn fair isle! It just matches my character. If you haven't done yet you must try. This is a totally different world. I guarantee you cannot stop knitting once you start. I made one more right away with different color scheme, and you know what? I am in love with color work! I am gonna grab colorful yarns and try something big soon. ;) Anyone bitten by color work buggies?

New Arrivals~

https://www.etsy.com/shop/atelierdesoyun

Hi guys~

Are you all enjoying this season? Hope you're having healthy and creative every each day. I am having some fun with creating new products at my atelier and getting excited for the coming new season. It is fun but also somewhat nervous opening a new door that I've never entered. It is quite a feeling~ :)

Today I'd like to introduce some of my new arrivals in this spring. I might do this next few postings since I am still in the process of designing and creating. Hopefully these do not bore you too much. I truly hope you get some inspirations and ideas from what I try to do here. I promise I am gonna make it simple and quick!

What is your favorite needles as a knitter? Mine is "interchangeable needle sets". I like their flexibility and easiness to carry. Also, they are easy to organize and keep neat. I have about 3 different full sets but still want some more. Well, never-ending desire for knitting notions that I love and hate about myself. :) Since I have so many needle sets I really have to organize them often. Otherwise I lose them here and there and end up with NOT finding anywhere. Can you believe that? I need #6 needles and I know I have 3 sets that are not used at this moment but I don't know where they are. Yes, I know I am terrible. I am a needle case maker but I have to admit that from time to time I have hard time to find my needles. That being said I should use my organizer more often and keep them neat.

So I developed a new design for interchangeable needles. This time I am stretching a bit and adopting new style of fabrics. Last few years I have solely played with solid linen. Finally I got out of my comfort zone and decided to embrace new friends. Don't get me wrong. Still I adore natural fabrics. This time I am moving to another natural family: Cotton & weaved cotton. I've been longing to play with weaved fabrics forever. Precisely I'd love to learn how to weave and I am planning it later this year. We will see~ :P

So here they are! They are for interchangeable needles but I am creating different designs for other kinds of needles and crochet hooks. As you see they got smaller and simpler than my original version yet still can house a good number of needle sets and cables. I also added O-rings for stitch markers and progress keepers. I found them real handy when I am out. As always you can customize as you wish: Pocket sizes, numbers, colors and anything if you need~ Since I like my case in my way I am sure you'd enjoy yours in your way, too!

Hope you like them. There are so many needle cases are available but I'd like to offer one of the best that you would call it a "go-to-case". You know you can reach me with your suggestions, ideas or any requests. I will be so excited to hear from you. Don't be shy and let me know what you think.

Have a wonderful weekend and talk to you soon~

XOXO,

Soyun.
